How to get

A visit to Mykonos (Greece) is impossible without the delightful Paraportiani Church. This unique structure is not only a place of worship, but also an architectural marvel and a witness to the history of the city. The name "Paraportiani" comes from "para", which means "side", and "porta", which means "door", due to the fact that the church was originally built against the fortress walls that surrounded the old city of Castro.

The exact date when construction began is unknown, but records indicate that it was built around 1425-1430. It consists of five churches connected together in a complex structure, which are built on top of each other on different levels and surrounded by impressive whitewashed walls. The whitewashed structures fit perfectly into the surrounding nature, with stunning views of the nearby islands.

The main church (Agia Anargyri) was built first and its entrance faces east, towards the city of Kastro, while four other churches make up the so-called Paraportiani (Our Lady of Myrtausen, Our Lady of Troouluntzi, Our Lady of Pammakaristos and Our Lady of Ermoupolis).

The Paraportiani Church has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990 for its great historical value, making it popular with tourists, who flock here every summer season in search of picturesque photo opportunities against the backdrop of stunning sunsets.

Paraportiani Church is an iconic landmark located on the Greek island of Mykonos. The structure, which dates back to the 15th century, consists of four churches built on top of each other in the form of a labyrinth. From afar, it looks like a single church with five domes and four bell towers.

It is a popular place among tourists visiting Mykonos as its intricate design and bright white walls stand out against the dark blue Aegean Sea. Despite its age and numerous renovations, the Paraportiani church is well preserved to this day and continues to attract visitors from near and far who admire its beauty and history.
